Explanation

Air pollution primarily affects the leaves because they are the main site of gas exchange. Flowers can be affected by pollutants but leaf damage is more common and visible. Stems are generally protected by outer layers from direct air pollutant contact. Roots are underground and thus less directly exposed to airborne pollutants.
