Explanation

Proteins are classified as simple or conjugated based on their composition. Conjugated proteins contain a non-protein part (prosthetic group) attached to the amino acid chain. Nucleoproteins (protein + nucleic acid) and glycoproteins (protein + carbohydrate) fit this definition perfectly.
