Explanation

Humus is formed by the decomposition of organic matter. In deciduous forests, broad leaves decompose quickly and form a thick layer of humus. Coniferous forests have acidic needles that decompose slowly, forming less humus. Alpine and Tundra regions lack sufficient warmth and time for significant humus formation.
