Rio de Janeiro was named the World Capital of Architecture for 2020 by UNESCO. São Paulo is a major city but was not given this title. Belo Horizonte is another Brazilian city that did not receive this designation. Rio Grande do Sul is a state, not a specific city awarded the title.
