Explanation

The combustion of CO requires oxygen (O2). The reaction is 2CO + O2 -> 2CO2. Since the volume ratio of O2 to CO is 1:2 at constant temperature and pressure, an additional 1 Nm3 of O2 is needed for every 2 Nm3 of CO.
